OLDER NEWS...
Joe Frank fans...
I have posted a page that links to all of KCRWs Joe Frank shows. They say they are no longer hosting these, so I took the page and put it up myself. You can find it HERE.
So, we've made some changes...
The web server is back up and running! I'll spare you the very long story, but I want you all to know that I haven't been sweating over UNIX code for 3 solid months, trying to get this to work. I gave it a few goes early on, then I just didn't have the time to fuss with it. In the last couple of weeks I have gotten some time to look into some of our problems, and with some great help from Jeff and Chris, I'm happy to say that the WTG Network is runnning at warp factor 10 and ready to Make It So.
A quick rundown of the project -
July 20 - I install Apple's security update for July on both the server and my G4. This update causes MySQL to crap out on the server, and I can't figure out why. I decide to wait for Jaguar and see if I can get it running properly in 10.2. I want to move away from OS X Server anyway, since I don't have $1000 to buy the upgrade for it, and the guy at CompUSA is cruising me. I tell him sorry, but I am busy at 2:00.
August 26 - Jag arrives, and I backup the server database, wipe the drives, re-partition and install. Unfortunately, I don't seem to manage to get PHP running again. I am stupid. I struggle off and on for a few weeks. PHP gets going, but the MySQL will not. Saddam Hussein is becoming a threat to democracy.
September - A couple of sessions with Chris and we manage to get the message board running (for you non-UNIX types, it means everything else was working), but as soon as Chris walked out the door it died. I decide to give up material posessions and become a nun.
October 5 - I install and configure a Sendmail server in Jaguar, and it goes smoothly, I am inspired to get my act together with the rest of the network. Some help from Jeff, several beers and a pair of nylons later, it's up. It's running. And I have been terrified to touch it since. The real test will be when I have to reboot, but since that could literally be months from now, I have no worries.
Enjoy the board, kids. It's here to stay!
jaz.
Come One Come All...
Hey hey hey!!! This 4th of July, why waste time with your own lousy family? You don't really like them anyway. If you're looking for something to do, come on by The Wiley Ranch and join us for some burgers and laughs. Who knows? You may even learn something before it's done!
Na Na Na, gonna have a good time!!!
Well... a lot has happened in the last 10 days. On April 3, I had an interview at Wizards of the Coast for a position in the imaging department. The following Friday I got the call - I got the job, and I was to start the following week. "What to do?!" I cried, having filled my schedule with so many social engagements and meetings with heads of state and captains of industry...
Oh, alright, let's be honest - I spent a LOT of time mowing the lawn.
Anyway, I started the following Wednesday, and now that I have been there a week I can honestly say that I haven't formulated an opinion yet. Hmmm.. The company is in a state of flux right now, and is still... fluxing. So time will tell if I stay or if I go nooooowww. I like it. I am having fun. It is very different than the 'Disc and yet very much the same. I'll keep ya posted on what goes down, and if any positions come up. I guess I need more time to decide if I like this place or not... All I know for sure is that my lawn looks like hell.
In case you are wondering - yes, I am still working on web design and some other side projects. They might be pushed back a bit, but they will still happen. More to come...

I have been working on the Design & Photo page. There aren't many links yet but the main page is coming along nicely, with a link to my photos on Alamy.com.
April 2, 2002
Alright, here we go AGAIN... This is the sixth (and probably not final) design concept for the WTG homepage. A few weeks ago, you might remeber me saying something like this:
"This is our new look, that's final - it came to me in the truck today, on my way home from Tully's. So what this means is that we will finally have a fully realized design concept that will carry through the entire site, instead of every one of my little ideas on every page."
What was I thinking? This is a testament to the power of professionally brewed coffee. Drink the stuff with care, kids, because we still don't know what it's doing to us.
Anyway, as I got in to that last site, I started to get more and more carried away, and things got, well, they just got a bit ugly. So I'm over it now. I had been playing with some more ideas for a site, and based on that and a few comments I got on the last one (you know who you are), I simplified things quite a bit and came up with this page. Thanks in no small part to Mac OS X and Aqua, I settled on something I think I can finally live with. Hope you like it.
I have added a link to the Message Board forums in case any of you have lost the URL. Check back in the coming days as I will be redesigning the look of those as well. I have left the old site up until the new one is completetly functional. You can find it Here and Here. To visit the ancient WTG page, go Here.
News: Liz is still working and I'm still not. Not in any major sense, that is. But damn if my lawn don't look good. I've got a couple of web projects going (in addition to this one) so that is keeping me busy. Liz continues to soldier on at the course. She's a trooper.
We are both still taking freelance work in our respective fields, so if know of any photos that need to be shot or any numbers that need to be added up (hello, Enron?) shoot us an email.
